Ovarian cancer survival rate gives us the percentage of women who survive the cancer of various types and stages for a certain time period (mostly 5 years) after they are diagnosed with the disease. However, these figures do not give specification on whether these people experience any sign or symptoms of ovarian cancer, are already cancer-free, or still undergoing treatment of the disease.
People diagnosed with this cancer will have different survival rates because each person’s case is unique. However, person’s survival rate will increase if she is diagnosed with the disease in the earlier stages and get a proper treatment after consulting a physician. Of course, the patient is required to be disciplined in following the doctor’s orders. It is much easier for healthcare professionals to treat the patient properly and immediately when they know the patient’s current stage of ovarian cancer rather than trying different kinds of treatment and hoping they are doing the right thing. Today, physicians as well as people in general have better understanding about the importance of exercise and nutrition (a healthy lifestyle in general) in treating different kinds of diseases, including ovarian cancer. For an otherwise healthy woman with ovarian cancer, it is easier for her to make adjustment in her diet and lifestyle while having her ovarian cancer treated. Besides, her body has more strength to deal with the side effects of the treatment, and thus she has more confidence that her condition will improve. Generally, the survival rate of women who have previously suffered the disease is not as good as that of those who are having the cancer for the first time. However, development in modern medication has improved this condition, and increased the survival rate for women with recurring ovarian cancer.
In conclusion, even though being diagnosed with ovarian cancer may be a horrible experience, it doesn’t mean that the world has ended for women suffering the disease. They may yet have a chance to get proper treatment and be cured, since development in the world of medicine has improved the ovarian cancer survival rate.
